Travel Tips
Below are many links to sites to aid you in planning your travels.
In general, plain common sense is your best guide to planning your trip to Thailand. For example, the country has a warm climate, so don't bring your certified-for-Siberia-in-the-dead-of-winter parka (though a coat comfortable to you around the freezing point is recommended if you come during the cool season and plan to go up into the mountains in the north).
Although excellent medical care is widely available in the cities, especially Bangkok -- and at astoundingly low prices, generally, compared to the cost of such care in developed countries -- you probably won't want to climb off the plane and head for the doctor's office to get any regular injections you might take, such as polio boosters. Check with your doctor about hepatitis and other shots; opinions seem to vary on advisability. Bring any prescription medication with you -- and do have the prescription paper with you.
If you just can't live without your ghetto-blaster *and* you plan to plug it into the wall, be sure to bring an adapter. And even then, Asian outlets come in an astonishing array of forms, meaning your plug may not go into the electrical outlet (that's a "power point" to you folks of the British Empire), so you may have to shop around for widely-available *physical* adapters. The electricity here is 60-cycle/220-volt.
Elsewhere we caution against any silliness such as smuggling in drugs or firearms. Don't do it. You will go to a very, very wretched jail. And your embassy won't be able to do a thing to help you. The Thais are *extremely* tolerant -- except in a few areas. And if you think either that it's your God-given right to have your dope or to pack a gun, the *rest* of us foreigners hope to high heaven you stay home anyway -- *we* don't want you, either!
