WEBSITE NEWS As mentioned in the "thanks" article in my column "The Rounds" for December 30, 2001, "The Doc," my partner, is basically re-orienting himself in an independent direction to move into the website design business. though this is a part of what BangkokAtoZ is also about, there isn't a conflict of interest, as Dennis is seeking to do sites for U.S.-based firms. One of the beauties of the Internet is that he can be right here in Bangkok while working for someone half the planet away. This pretty much leaves me to my own devices, true, but both I and Cowboy Jon (along with everyone else around here) is wishing Dennis the best in his new venture. There undoubtedly will be synergistic interaction between us and The Doc in the future, as well. Speaking of synergistic interaction, I'm going to jump the gun a little and say I had a potentially fruitful meeting yesterday with the owner of a major local travel agency who in turn has professional associations with larger international travel agencies, hotels, etc. We explored having an affiliate relationship that could prove fruitful for us, but also -- and more importantly, for YOU, the tourist in Thailand. Watch here and the entrance page for further developments. We passed our first anniversary as a fully professional site in November, 2001 -- the determinate being that completed our first full year having the site hosted on a professional, fee-based server. Despite the drastic impact of 9/11, we look forward to slow recovery and expansion in 2002. We are adding some new features now, including "Travelers' Tales," contributions from visitors about their experiences traveling in Thailand, "Sukhumvit Online," and a guide to Sukhumvit Road from Soi Zero to Soi 26. Enjoy them both! We are actively seeking contributions for both "Travelers' Tales" and "Sukhumvit Online." For "Travelers' Tales," FIRST send a synopsis to MekhongKurt@BangkokAtoZ.com so we can see if it will fit. As for "Sukhumvit Online," if you learn of any openings of new venues or closings of any old ones, an e-mail to the same address will be greatly appreciated. Return to the Table of Contents. |
